What Fundera says it is
Fundera describes itself as a free marketplace that connects businesses with a network of vetted lenders. It says it does not finance businesses or underwrite loans.
From Fundera's business loans page (checked October 2026):
- Who it is: the brand reads "Fundera by NerdWallet," and the page says it is not a lender itself: "We do not finance businesses or underwrite loans."
- How it works: "Complete one application and prequalify for multiple loan offers at once." Fundera then matches you with options and offers guidance on choosing one.
- Cost to you: the page calls the service free. Loan costs come from whichever lender you pick.
- Credit check: matching uses a soft inquiry that "will not affect your credit score." A lender may run a hard inquiry if you move forward with its formal application.
- Requirements: none of its own. It says requirements "vary" by lender and loan type, and that the widest choice goes to owners with good credit, multiple years in business and strong revenue.
Fundera does not publish a general amount range or funding speed of its own. It notes some lenders fund "in as little as one business day."
The real difference: who does the sorting
On a marketplace, you receive several offers and do the comparing yourself. With ROI Funder, we sort offers for you and present each one as a dollar cost, payback period and monthly-equivalent payment.
Both routes save you from filling out ten separate applications. The difference shows up after the offers arrive.
A marketplace hands you a set of prequalified options. Each lender may quote its product differently: one as an interest rate, one as a factor rate, one as a fixed fee with weekly payments. Lining them up fairly is your job. Fundera's page says it provides guidance, and its editorial content is extensive, but the final math sits with you.
ROI Funder's approach starts from what the money will produce. Before you sign, we show:
- Total dollars repaid and total dollars of cost.
- The payback period in months.
- The payment converted to a monthly equivalent, even when it is collected daily or weekly.
- Whether the return from the project covers that cost with room to spare.
If you prefer to run the numbers yourself, use our offer comparison worksheet.
Side by side
Both are free to use and both start with a soft credit inquiry. ROI Funder publishes its own requirements and speed; Fundera leaves both to the lender you choose.
| Item | Fundera by NerdWallet | ROI Funder |

When Fundera is the better fit
Fundera suits owners who want to browse many lender types at once, including credit cards, or who are under 6 months old or under $20,000 a month in revenue.
- You also want card offers. Fundera's title says it compares loan and credit card options. ROI Funder does not place business credit cards.
- You are very new. Its page says some online lenders accept startups with three to six months in operation. Our floor is 6 months.
- Your revenue is under $20,000 a month. A marketplace with a wide lender mix may surface options our guideline excludes.
- You enjoy doing the comparison. If you are comfortable converting factor rates and weekly payments yourself, a wide menu is useful.
When ROI Funder is the better fit
ROI Funder suits owners above $20,000 a month who need money quickly, want a large range, and want cost shown in plain dollars before signing.
One online application takes a few minutes and uses a soft pull. We place working capital, term loans, lines of credit, equipment financing, revenue-based financing and SBA loans, from $5,000 to $5,000,000, in all 50 states.
Money can reach your account the same business day on an approved, complete file: the application plus 3 months of business bank statements. Our 100+ funder network means the file goes where it fits instead of to whoever bid first.
How to use both without hurting your credit
Soft inquiries do not affect your score, so you can prequalify on both. The risk starts when several lenders run hard pulls at once.
- Gather 3 months of business bank statements and your basic business details first.
- Prequalify where you like. Both routes begin with a soft check.
- Before agreeing to any formal application, ask whether it triggers a hard pull. Fundera's page says lenders will notify you.
- Limit hard pulls to the one or two offers you would actually accept.
- Compare every finalist in total dollars and payback months, not headline rates.

Frequently asked questions

No. Its site says Fundera by NerdWallet does not finance businesses or underwrite loans. It connects you with lenders.
Does Fundera charge borrowers?
Its site describes the service as free. You pay whatever the lender you choose charges for the loan.
Is ROI Funder the same thing as a marketplace?
Both use one application. The difference is that ROI Funder matches the file and lays out total cost, payback period and monthly-equivalent payment for you before you sign.
Will applying to both hurt my credit score?
Initial checks on both are soft and do not affect your score. Hard pulls may happen later with a specific lender, so ask before you proceed.
