ROI Funder vs Shopify Capital

Shopify Capital is funding built into your Shopify admin: eligible merchants see an offer, accept it and repay with a fixed share of daily store sales. It is convenient, but you cannot ask for it; Shopify decides who is eligible based on your store data. ROI Funder reviews your whole business, including sales on other channels, and you can apply whenever you need money.

How Shopify Capital works

Shopify says eligible merchants get offers in their admin, can be funded in as quick as two business days, and repay with a fixed percentage of daily store sales, with loans in the U.S. issued by WebBank.

From the Shopify Capital page (checked October 2026):

  • Eligibility: available to select merchants in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia. An underwriting model looks at sales, disputes and customer engagement. Minimums include selling on Shopify for at least 90 days and following Shopify's policies.
  • Amounts: offers up to $2M, based on your sales.
  • Speed: funding in as quick as two business days, if approved.
  • Repayment: a fixed percentage of your store's daily sales, only on days you make sales. The maximum repayment term is 18 months and minimum payments apply.
  • Credit: Shopify says it does not run credit checks and there is no impact to your personal credit score. It also says there are no guarantors and no personal liability.
  • Issuer: all loans through Shopify Capital in the U.S. are issued by WebBank.

The invitation problem

You cannot apply for Shopify Capital on demand; if no offer appears in your admin, you are not eligible right now, regardless of what you need.

Shopify says it emails eligible merchants and shows offers on the admin home page. That is the right model when an offer is sitting there and the amount fits your plan. It is the wrong model when you need money for a specific deadline and nothing is offered, or when the offer is smaller than the purchase order you are trying to fill.

Common reasons a healthy business sees no offer or a small one: most sales happen off Shopify, on Amazon, wholesale or in person; the store is newer than 90 days; or dispute rates rose recently. None of those means the business cannot be funded. It means the platform only sees part of the picture.

Platform view versus whole-business view

Shopify underwrites from Shopify data; ROI Funder's network underwrites from your business bank statements, which capture every channel that deposits into the account.

A seller with $15,000 a month on Shopify and $50,000 a month on Amazon is, to Shopify, a $15,000 business. In bank statements, it is a $65,000 business.

Checking the cost of a sales-share offer

Take the total amount to be repaid, subtract the amount received, and divide by your expected payoff months to get a monthly-equivalent cost you can compare with any other offer.

Illustrative example: a skincare brand is offered $30,000 with $33,900 to repay, collected at 12% of daily sales. With store sales of $25,000 a month, payments run about $3,000 a month, so payoff takes about 11 months. The $3,900 cost works out to roughly $355 a month over that period.

Now the twist that matters for sales-share products: if sales double during the holidays, payoff speeds up and the same $3,900 cost is squeezed into fewer months. The dollar cost does not change, but the cost per month rises. If sales slow, you pay less each day, but minimum payments still apply. Read the offer terms for the exact minimum.

Run any offer through our total cost guide. All figures are illustrative.

Using both without overloading cash flow

Stacking a sales-share advance on top of another daily or weekly payment can squeeze inventory reorders, so add up every payment as a share of revenue before taking a second product.

Many online sellers hold a platform advance and still need more for a large inventory buy. Before adding anything, list each existing payment and what share of monthly revenue it takes. If the total already passes 15% to 20% of revenue, a new payment may starve your next reorder, which is the very thing the money was meant to fund.

Tell any funder about your Shopify Capital balance up front. Funders in our network see it on bank statements anyway, and disclosing it lets them structure an offer that fits beside it, or one that pays it off. Our guide to ecommerce working capital covers inventory timing in more detail.

When Shopify Capital is the better fit, and when ROI Funder is

Shopify Capital fits merchants who already see an offer that matches their need. ROI Funder fits sellers with no offer, offers that are too small, multi-channel revenue or a need beyond a sales-share advance.

Shopify Capital may be better if: an offer is already in your admin, the amount covers your plan, and you value repayment that runs automatically from sales with no separate application. Merchants with credit below our 500 threshold may also prefer it, since Shopify says it does not run a credit check.

ROI Funder may be better if: you have no offer, the offer is too small, most of your revenue comes from other channels, or you want a fixed-payment term loan or a line of credit for recurring inventory buys. We place funding for Shopify stores through our 100+ funder network, with approved, complete files funded the same business day.

Applying takes a few minutes, uses a soft credit pull and carries no obligation to accept.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply for Shopify Capital if I do not see an offer?

Shopify says it emails eligible merchants and shows offers on the admin home page. If no offer appears, you are not currently eligible for Shopify Capital.

Does Shopify Capital check my credit?

Shopify's page says it does not run credit checks and that applying has no impact on your personal credit score. ROI Funder uses a soft pull, which also does not affect your score.

Does ROI Funder count my Amazon and wholesale sales?

Yes. Funders in our network review your business bank statements, so deposits from every sales channel count toward the $20,000+ monthly revenue guideline.

How long can a Shopify Capital loan last?

Shopify states the maximum repayment term is 18 months, and that the actual repayment period may be shorter depending on sales.
