What happens after you apply for business funding

After you submit, your file is checked for completeness, reviewed against your bank statements, matched to funders and returned to you as one or more offers. You pick, sign and receive the money. On an approved, complete file at ROI Funder, deposit can happen the same business day.

Stage one: the completeness check

Someone confirms that the application is filled in and the three months of bank statements are attached and readable.

This first pass takes little time, but it decides how fast everything else goes. A file is complete when it holds the application and three months of business bank statements. If a page is missing or a PDF will not open, you will be asked to resend it.

The best way to shorten this stage is to download full statements directly from your bank before you start. Avoid photos of the screen. If you are unsure what to prepare, our guide on business bank accounts for funding lists what a reviewer likes to see.

Stage two: the review

A reviewer reads your statements for average deposits, balances and existing payments, and runs a soft credit check on the owner.

The reviewer works out your qualifying monthly revenue, looks at how steady it is, and checks current obligations. The soft credit pull confirms identity and credit standing without affecting your score.

You may get a question or two, such as the source of a large deposit. Reply quickly and plainly. The method is explained in how funders read bank statements.

Stage three: matching and offers

The file is matched to funders in our 100+ funder network whose rules fit it, and the results come back as offers with clear terms.

Not every funder suits every file. Some prefer certain industries, others specific revenue levels or credit ranges. Matching saves you from applying many times and keeps rejected applications off your record.

Each offer should show the amount, total payback, payment size and frequency, estimated term and any fees. ROI Funder adds the true cost and monthly-equivalent payment so you can compare on equal terms. The method is in how to compare factor rate offers.

Stage four: your decision

You are under no obligation to accept anything. Read the offer, run the payback math and choose, or decline all of them.

Take a few minutes with the numbers. Ask what the money will earn, whether the payment fits your slowest month, and what the personal guarantee covers. If an offer is too heavy, ask for a smaller amount or a different product.

Declining costs nothing. Because the credit pull is soft, you do not pay for looking.

Stage five: documents and signing

Accepted offers come with an agreement to sign electronically, usually along with ID and bank details for deposit and payments.

Read the agreement before signing, especially the sections on payment adjustments, default, prepayment and the guarantee. If anything is unclear, ask for it in writing. Then e-sign. You may need a voided check or account verification so the funder can deposit and set up payments.

Stage six: money in your account

Funds are sent by ACH or wire. ROI Funder aims for the same business day on approved, complete files.

Timing depends on the product. Working capital is the fastest. A term loan takes 1 to 5 days, a line of credit 24 to 72 hours, equipment financing 2 to 7 days, and SBA loans longer. Cut-off times for banks apply, so a deposit started late in the afternoon may land the next morning. See how long business funding takes for more detail.

After funding: what to expect next

Payments begin on the agreed schedule. Keep funds for their intended use and track the results against your plan.

Set a reminder to check progress a month in. Did the equipment bring in the sales you expected? Is the payment comfortable? If you are ahead, you might explore early payoff. If you are behind, speak to the funder early rather than late. Silence is the worst option.

Keep a short checklist on hand through the process: statements sent, questions answered, offer reviewed, agreement read, payoff terms understood, deposit confirmed. Ticking each box keeps you in control and keeps the file moving.

If you ever feel rushed, slow down. A legitimate offer will still be there after an hour of careful reading, and an offer that cannot survive that hour is not one to take.

It also helps to know what you should never be asked to do. You should not be asked to pay a fee just to receive an offer, to send passwords, or to deposit money before funds are released. If a step seems unusual, pause and verify who is asking. A real process is explained clearly at each stage.

If you only remember one thing from this guide, make it this: read every number on the page before you sign, and ask for anything that is missing. Clear answers are a good sign. Vague ones are your cue to slow down, compare, or walk away.

Keep copies of everything you sign and every email you receive during the process. A tidy folder takes minutes to build, and it protects you if a question comes up months later about what was agreed.
